BlueBuild Christmas Jumper Day Supports Alopecia UK

On Tuesday, December 17, 2024, BlueBuild Energy proudly hosted its annual Christmas Jumper Day, dedicating the event to a meaningful cause: raising funds for Alopecia UK. This year, the team chose this charity because one of their long-standing and valued members, Darcy, lives with Alopecia Universalis.

Darcy was diagnosed with Alopecia Universalis nearly six years ago. She shared her emotional journey, describing how she first noticed symptoms just three months after her father’s passing. It was on Valentine’s Day in 2019 that she spotted a small patch of hair loss, and within 12 weeks, she had lost all her hair, including her eyelashes and eyebrows. "Transitioning from having thick, beautiful blonde hair to complete hair loss in just 12 weeks at the age of 41 was incredibly difficult," she reflected. "My children, Morgan and Kai, along with my close family and friends, have been my greatest support throughout this journey. I truly couldn’t have managed without them, as well as the fantastic support from Alopecia UK and their Facebook groups, where we share our stories and uplift one another, whether dealing with patchy Alopecia Areata or, like me, full Alopecia Universalis."

The experience of losing her hair was immensely challenging both mentally and physically. Darcy also faced difficulties with uncomfortable wigs and scarves. However, she has since embraced her baldness. Last year, she celebrated her journey by having her head tattooed with flowers symbolizing herself and her children, along with a butterfly featuring the Alopecia UK blue ribbon integrated into its design.

Darcy mentioned that she is often mistaken for someone undergoing cancer treatment, receiving questions about her bravery for going out without a wig. Rather than feeling discomforted, she now views these interactions as opportunities to educate others and raise awareness about Alopecia.

In recognition of Darcy's strength and resilience, BlueBuild was honored to dedicate its Christmas Jumper Day to her. Donations are still welcomed and can be made through the Alopecia UK fundraiser page. Thank you for supporting this vital cause!
