Save Thousands on Home Energy Upgrades with Grants

Helping Northern Ireland homeowners access free or subsidised energy upgrades — we handle everything from eligibility through to installation.

Support to Upgrade Your Home

Northern Ireland has some of the highest rates of fuel poverty in the UK. Many homes across the region still rely on oil heating systems and are inadequately insulated — meaning families are spending far more than they should to stay warm.

Government grant schemes are designed to change that. They provide funding — in many cases fully covering the cost — to upgrade insulation, heating systems, glazing, and more. The result: a warmer home, lower energy bills, and a reduced carbon footprint.

Whether you own your home or rent privately, BlueBuild Energy can help you find out what you’re entitled to and manage the entire process on your behalf.

NISEP — Northern Ireland Sustainable Energy Programme

Support for essential home insulation upgrades.

The Northern Ireland Sustainable Energy Programme (NISEP) provides funding to help households improve the energy efficiency of their homes through targeted insulation measures. The scheme focuses on reducing heat loss, lowering energy costs and improving home comfort.

Grants in Northern Ireland – Frequently Asked Questions

In Northern Ireland, insulation upgrades are supported through two main schemes:

Northern Ireland Sustainable Energy Programme (NISEP)
Affordable Warmth Scheme

Both schemes provide funding for eligible households to improve the energy efficiency of their homes.

BlueBuild provides the following measures in Northern Ireland:

  • Cavity Wall Insulation
  • Loft Insulation

These measures help reduce heat loss, improve comfort and lower energy bills.

The Northern Ireland Sustainable Energy Programme (NISEP) provides funding for energy efficiency improvements, with a focus on households that may be struggling with energy costs.

Funding levels and eligibility vary depending on household circumstances and property suitability.

The Affordable Warmth Scheme is a government‑funded programme delivered through local councils, aimed at low‑income households and those at risk of fuel poverty.

It provides support for insulation improvements to make homes warmer and more affordable to heat.

Eligibility depends on the scheme, but generally you may qualify if:

  • You own your home or are a private tenant (landlord permission required)
  • Your property is located in Northern Ireland
  • Your home has uninsulated or poorly insulated cavity walls or loft
  • Your household meets scheme income or benefit criteria (particularly for Affordable Warmth)

Each application is assessed individually.

  • Affordable Warmth: Typically requires receipt of qualifying benefits or meeting income thresholds.
  • NISEP: May support households not in receipt of benefits, depending on funding streams and eligibility rules.
